700 Canal Street
700 Canal Street is a perfect example of an adaptive reuse of an older industrial property. Set on 2.3 acres, it was initially built in 1880 to house the Frederick Beck Lincrusta Wallcovering Factory. It continued with many industrial and warehouse uses until the 1980’s when it was transformed to one of the first flex spaces in Fairfield County.
Situated on the east branch canal of Stamford Harbor, it’s shorefront served to load and unload ships cargo to and from the industries housed in its buildings. Today it is a Marina that is full of life where pleasure boats dock and are also kept for safe
harbor during storms and large vessels serve as “floating catering halls.
The buildings comprising over 75,000 sf now house offices, restaurants, video production facilities and designer printing shops.
The original hardwood floors and exposed brick walls have been restored to their 1880 condition, but they still show their grande and unique look from over 100 years of use.
The remainder of the building was renovated with new plumbing, heating and air-conditioning, hi-speed elevators and sprinkler protection system
